What is the principle upon which all reason must begin and end? If this question were asked in any group of people, the answers would be numerous and varied. Common sense tells us the answer has to be truth. Remember, in John 18:38 that great coward Pilate asked: "What is truth?” and then never answers the question, as though it were unanswerable. Philosophers have searched for the answer to “What is truth” all through the centuries but like Pilate, have never found it. Modern man with his religion of secular humanism, loves to proclaim there are no absolutes, that truth is only relative, and that we can never know any truth for certain. Relative truth may sound like a reasonable idea, but it is wrong. There must be absolute truth for us to have an anchor for reason. For a being to make a truthful statement, that being would have to know everything there is to know about everything. He would have to have all knowledge. He would have to be omniscient. So the definition of truth is a statement made by an omniscient being.
Omniscience is a simple word, formed from two Latin words, omnis meaning all and scientia meaning knowledge. Think about what a remarkable idea this is to even imagine a Being having all knowledge, i.e. knowing everything there is to know about everything. What a great subject for the little mind of man to contemplate! Now go on from there and realize the only way to be certain of any truth in this world would be for a Being with omniscience to speak, write, or control a statement made through another person. For anyone else to speak or make a statement results only in a human opinion which may or may not be true, but whether it is true or not could only be judged by a Being with omniscience. Therefore, truth can only be possible if it comes from omniscience. Without omniscience there is only human opinion.
Look up truth in an extensive concordance of a Bible and notice Jesus says again and again “I tell you the truth”. He is the only person that has ever lived that can make that statement. Why? He is omniscient. He has all knowledge. He is God the creator. Am I telling you the truth here on this paper, right now? You must use your reason, and judge for yourself. If I were to quote “Thou shalt not steal” you would know that is truth because it is in accord with scripture and has its origin in the omniscient Holy Spirit.
Medicine is always changing because doctors through science acquire new knowledge. Electronics are always changing because engineers through science acquire new knowledge. The same applies to photography, education, economics, construction and all facets of society. Therefore, it is obvious that new knowledge is the reason for change. So, you see this is why the Bible says in Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday and today and forever”. This is why “He changeth not”, because He has all knowledge and cannot learn anything new.
This was also why Jesus never said “I believe, I suppose, in my opinion, perhaps” or anything related to uncertainty, because He had and has all knowledge. This is also why the Holy Bible is the only certain truth in the entire universe, because it was directed from the omniscient mind of God. Now we can see why Christianity is a system of unwavering absolutes because it is based on the Bible, the only truth in the universe. Isn’t it comforting to know and understand this? Science cannot give us truth but only high probability.
If someone in the future tells you that truth is only relative, or that knowing truth is not possible, or that there are no absolutes, you can know they are mistaken. Secular humanism, the religion of modern man is based on the false idea that there is no certain truth, that truth is only relative and that there are no absolutes. This has been the teaching of our educational system for over a century, and this false idea has permeated our entire society and culture. Think of the logical absurdity of the idea that there is no truth and there are no absolutes. In essence this proclaims there are no absolutes except for this one absolute that there are no absolutes. It is time for Christians to return to the defense of the Word of the Omniscient God and proclaim its truth without apology.
