Matthew 19:4 "And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female." (These are the words of Jesus. So Jesus and Paul as shown in the previous little message clearly accepted the Genesis account of a literal Adam and Eve. Christians that regard Adam and Eve as merely allegorical are in rebellion against the inspired testimony of Paul and the Lord Jesus.)
2 Peter 3:1-6 "Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: whereby the world that then was being overflowed with water, perished." (This has to be one of the most tremendous scriptures in the Bible. God permitted Peter to look ahead to the last days of the church age and to foresee the conditions the church would have to meet and overcome. Scoffers today are rejecting the promise Jesus made to return, and rejecting on the basis of denial of the historical truth of the Word, the historical truth of the account of creation, the historical truth of the account of the great world wide flood of Noah's day, and in addition are saying there never was any flood, but that everything has been the same for millions or billions of years. The part I like best though is where the scripture says the scoffers are willingly ignorant because that translates "intentionally stupid" .)
Genesis 1:27 "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." (Then in Genesis 1:31 God pronounced all of creation as very good. Plant life was brought forth from the earth in verse 11 indicating plants have a body composed of the elements of the earth. The bodies of animals were brought forth from water and the earth in verses 20, 24 designated as creatures, and the term "creature" is the Hebrew nephesh, usually translated "soul". Thus, plants have a living body, but animals have both body and soul. Man alone has body, soul and spirit! Man's spirit is unique among all creatures! This is the "image of God". This "image of God" in man has been marred by man's fall into sin, but not obliterated (see Genesis 9:6; James 3:9). It can even now be restored through faith in Him who is both Son of God and Son of Man, who is perfectly the "image of the invisible God" (Colossians 1:15; Hebrews 1:3). Man's spiritual nature, dead in trespasses and sins, can be renewed by the new birth (John 3:6; Ephesians 4:23,24; Colossians 3:10).
