I think we understand the idea of authority. If you have ever been in the U.S. Marine Corps during wartime, as a private, as I have, you have a very clear idea of authority. This little message is to discuss the authority of the word of God. As Christians, how much do we accept the authority of the Bible? How much do we permit the Bible to have authority in our lives? How much do we permit our natural sinful rebellious nature to block our submission to the authority of the scripture? How much do we want to show others how smart we are as we tell them what the Bible must mean instead of what it says?
The controversy concerning creation and evolution is really about the authority of the Bible. The Bible tells us the Holy Spirit was the author. The Bible says all scripture was given by the inspiration of God. All scripture means all scripture, not just parts of scripture.
Do we let the omniscient Creator tell us what he did or do we try to tell others what the omniscient Creator must have meant? Can creation in 6 days mean 6 days or did God not mean 6 days? Maybe God doesn't know what a day is. Can a day mean a day? Could the story be simple so us morons can understand it? The Bible tells us God is not the author of confusion.
At the end of the sixth day the Bible tells us "God saw all that he had made and behold it was very good". If there had been death and birth and death and birth for millions of years before man appeared on the scene could that be very good?
Evolution says death had been going on for millions of years when man arrived. The Bible says death came from Adam's disobedience to the authority of the word of God.
