The creation evolution controversy is generally considered by most Christians to be an unimportant side issue in Christianity and simply about such things as millions of years, theories of animals changing from one kind into another, apes changing into men, origin of life both plant and animal from pond slime, mutations of genes, and the supposed need for an impossible total separation of science and religion. The purpose of this little message is to get Christians to understand how important this controversy is because what the creation evolution issue is really all about is the authority of all of scripture. Once a Christian sees and understands this, the Christians entire outlook on the subject is likely to change.
We Christians are in a prolonged war between God and Satan that began in the garden of Eden. This war began in the first recorded words out of Satan's mouth when Satan asked Eve "Hath God said?" Here is Satan questioning the authority of scripture. Scripture is, and has always been, and always will be, what God has said, himself or through His prophets, past tense, period, over with, finished, done. God has said this is all the revelation we need and all we will get until we die or until He returns.
We know that truth can only come from an omniscient source, that is the source of truth must know everything there is to know about everything, and thus the only possible truth in this universe can be Holy Scripture which comes from God. If only part or parts of Holy Scripture are true or to put it another way if Holy Scripture simply contains truth mingled with error, then that would mean fallible man must decide which parts of scripture are true and which parts are in error, which would obviously be impossible for man to determine. If Holy Scripture is truth mingled with error then it would all be useless because, we would have no authority as a guide to anchor us and give us direction. Imagine a dictionary in which we knew some of the words were spelled correctly and some incorrectly and some definitions were correct and some incorrect. Who could use it? Therefore it is obvious the church must defend Holy Scripture as truth or the foundation of the church is destroyed. If the church doesn't teach this truth, who will? What idiocy to say the scripture contains spiritual truth but not historical truth, or spiritual truth but not medical truth. Man wishes to find fault with scripture so scripture will not apply to man.
Evolution proclaims there was no Creator, that time space and matter are eternal, that man was not created but evolved by means of millions of years of death and on and on with each proclamation being a direct denial of the authority of what God says in Holy Scripture.
The continued decline of the power of Christianity in the world in the past 150 years is the fault of the Christian churches not teaching the authority of the word of God. My granddaughter has just returned from England and reports there were no young people in any of the churches they visited, not that there were only a few, but there were none. This religion of evolution is being taught to children in schools where it is against the law to teach religion.
At a recent seminar of evolutionists in South Carolina where the subject of how to best teach evolution was the topic of the seminar, an evolutionist asked the moderator what was the best way to deal with Christian students when they stubbornly refused to accept evolutionary teaching. His answer: "Tell them to ask their pastor's opinion because most pastors don't understand the problem and they will tell the students that they can believe in Christianity and evolution, or they will tell them the subject is of no importance."
